What’s been happening:

After serving in the Army and receiving my master's degree, I married and moved to Penn State in 1964 for my doctoral work in Sociology. Studying under political sociologist David Westby and social psychologist Muzafer Sherif, I was given the creative freedom and funding to pursue my research, my doctoral dissertation studying student activists during the 1960s, and a campus survey of PSU students. My first faculty position was at Penn State; followed by appointments at University of Maryland and Syracuse University. At Syracuse I taught courses in sociology, political science, and international relations for over 30 years. My wife Peg was a professor at SUNY Upstate Medical University. Specializing in political sociology, international political psychology, youth movements and generational politics, Peg and I collaborated on over 200 published articles and chapters. My professional life has involved considerable travel to Western and Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Now a retired Emeritus Professor, I fondly remember and am grateful for my days at Penn State where I received a solid education, superb methodological training, and significant research opportunities. We are a Penn State family, our oldest (Julie) and youngest (Beth) daughters received their PhDs from PSU's Department of Human Development and Family Studies, and they married men they met in graduate school, who also earned their PhDs from Penn State. Our middle daughter (Katie) runs a business with her husband on Nantucket Island. We have 5 grandchildren.
